Questions tenants ask

What is web hosting?

Space on a server that is always online, where your website's files and database live. You rent it from a hosting company by the month or year, much like a flat.

Why does my hosting bill jump after the first year?

Most hosts sell the first term at a discount and then charge the regular price. On the cheapest plans in our listings the increase ranges from none to six times. Check the renewal price before you pay, or use the rent calculator.

Is a longer term always cheaper?

Per month, usually yes, because the intro price is often tied to a 24 or 36 month term. But you pay it upfront and the money-back window is short. A one-year term costs more per month and keeps you free to leave.

Shared, VPS or cloud?

Shared hosting is a flat in a big block and enough for most blogs and small business sites. A VPS is your own floor, with guaranteed resources and root access. Cloud hosting is a serviced hotel: resize quickly and pay for what runs.

Do I need WordPress hosting for a WordPress site?

No. WordPress runs on almost any shared plan. Managed WordPress hosting adds automatic updates, caching and staging, which saves time if you would rather not handle them.

Can I move to another host later?

Yes. Many hosts move a site for free. The moving-day plan lists the steps to switch without downtime or lost email.

How do you make money?

Through affiliate commissions when you sign up through some of our links. It does not affect the order of any list. The advertising disclosure has the details.
