How much do web hosting prices go up at renewal?
Across the 28 hosts in our listings that publish a renewal price, the cheapest plan renews at 173% more on average, with a median of 116%. 10 of them charge the same price after the first term.
Can I avoid the renewal price?
Only for a while. The longest term locks the intro price longest, and some hosts let you renew early at a discount. Moving to another host's intro offer works too, at the cost of a migration.
Why do hosts do this?
The first term is priced to win you, the renewal pays for you. Comparison tables usually show the intro price only, so the renewal rarely appears next to it.
