Our verdict

A fit for companies and agencies that run important WordPress sites and want a large, established provider with developer tools. Small blogs and beginners pay a lot for what they get here, and visit limits start at 25,000 a month on the entry tier. The first-year discount only applies to annual Essential plans, and the plans page says renewal pricing is subject to change.

The details

Kinds of hosting: wordpress
Control panel: custom WP Engine User Portal
Backups: Automatic and on-demand, kept for 30 to 60 days
Support: 24/7 technical support by chat; phone only on higher plans according to reviews
Moving in: free with the automated migration plugin; managed migration service on Core
Free domain: no
Free SSL: Yes
Data centers: Google Cloud regions in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, with AWS and Azure on higher plans (per Kripesh Adwani review)

Renewal is not stated on the plans page; renewMonthly uses the base price in the page data ($420, $780, $1,560 a year), and the page says renewal pricing is subject to change. The current plans page shows no money-back guarantee. Older WP Engine pages and reviews mention 60 days for the former Startup to Scale plans, so moneyBackDays stays null. Data centre locations are not listed by WP Engine on the pages read and come from one review. Prices for Core and Enterprise are not shown. Scores are editorial. Terms from WP Engine's public configurator price data (monthly and annually are the only billing options). 12-month intro includes the auto-applied 20% first-year coupon WPE20YEARONE; renewal is the base price, which the page says is subject to change.
